Tall Ship calls on Luderitz

Posted: 04 Apr 2024Category: Operations

Luderitz Bay Shipping & Forwarding provided various ships agency services to the sail ship, Picton Castle. LBSF assisted with a customs, immigration, port facilitation and crew change. During the visit, the ships captain allowed local school learners, grade R to grade 7, to have a tour of the ship.

The Barque Picton Castle was built in 1928 and is a three-masted sail training tall ship based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada and best known for our adventurous international deep sea voyages under sail. The ship is rigged as a three-masted barque, 55m long, with a riveted steel hull, clear oiled pine decks, steel masts and wooden and steel yards. She has a 690-horsepower diesel engine for the times when sailing is not feasible. The ship has space for roughly 52 people, consisting of about 12 professional crew and 40 sail trainees.

The vessel's next port of call is St Helena’s Island.
