Macs Shipping plays its part

Posted: 01 Apr 2019Category: Operations

MACS Shipping played its part in the Walvis Bay port expansion by shipping in nine pontoons as well as additional walkways that the port authority will be using for the new marina development. The pontoons were shipped on-board the MACS vessel, the Green Mountain from Portugal and each weighs about 44 tonnes. Special gear was also sent with the vessel, as these units require some careful and coordinated lifting procedures due to their center of gravity. A representative from the company in Portugal that built them also flew to Walvis Bay, and held a series of pre-offload meetings internally and on the vessel with the Namport and stevedores to ensure the best mode of discharge.
