OLS attended to another Boskalis vessel recently – the Forte Valletta. OLS handled the crew change at anchorage and husbandry arrangements for provisions. It was another team effort as Walvis Bay Stevedoring took care of loading the provisions onto the Orca Marine’s launch to ferried the crew and goods to the vessel.
The Dutch company, Boskalis operates one of the largest, versatile fleets of specialized offshore vessels in the world, and has over 100 years’ experience in hydraulic engineering, coastal protection and land reclamation. Their vessels are designed for a variety of projects – from ocean transport of a drilling rig, to the subsea installation of an offshore production platform or an offshore wind farm. The Forte Valletta is classed as a Semi-Submersible DP-2 Heavy Transport Vessel and was built in 2012. Sailing under the flag of Malta, it has a carrying capacity of up to 48300t and her draught when submerged is 23 meters. Her length overall is 217 meters and her width is 43 meters.
