First low sulphur fuel bunker for Namcor onshore storage

Posted: 04 Feb 2021Category: Operations

Namcors' new fuel storage depot recently received a consignment of VLSFO (Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil) for the first time.

Monjasa Namibia was delighted to have the opportunity to supply the first fill of VLSFO at Namports’ new fuel jetty and subsequently the depot. 8,000 cubes of fuel was delivered by the Maersk Tampa.

Nazeem Stuart, GM of Monjasa Namibia, said; “We want to thank Namcor for once again putting their trust in our capabilities. It gives us great pleasure to continue to grow our relationship with our National oil company. We pride ourselves on product diversification, reliability, competitive market prices and providing supply solutions.”

Monjasa is proud to support “IMO 2020” by providing VLSFO. The regulation limits the sulphur in fuel used on ships to 0.50% m/m – a significant reduction from 3.5%. This is a major milestone to improve air quality, preserve the environment and protect human health.

Since 1 January 2020 the new limits have brought about a 70% cut in total sulphur oxide emissions from shipping, which is phenomenal.

“Monjasa has a diverse portfolio of services and products and we are available to assist all shipowners to finalize the switchover to VLSFO, which is to the benefit of our environment.”, Stuart added.
