Empowering Talent

Posted: 01 Mar 2024Category: Operations

Two years ago, Sarafina Fillipus stood face-to-face with a towering 16-ton forklift, wondering if she'd ever conquer its mechanisms. Today, she confidently navigates its controls as one of the first female forklift operators at Rennies Consolidated's container depot.

In 2022, Rennies Consolidated sought raw talent and especially women to train as forklift drivers. Sarafina, armed with courage and a level 3 qualification in Electrical General, embraced this challenge wholeheartedly.

She recalls her first encounter with the forklift as memorable, however mixed with excitement and aprehension as logistics cargo handling is a very male-dominated industry. Yet, Sarafina's determination and the support of her supervisors helped her master the machine and her role.

Sarafina's story isn't just about operating machinery; it's about shattering stereotypes and paving the way for women in traditionally male-dominated industries. As she pursues a logistics course at IUM, she continues to inspire others with her unwavering determination and confidence.
