Some splendid golf, reminding many of the likes of international golfing events, was seen during the annual Manica Coastal Golf Open Championships in Walvis Bay over the weekend (24 September 2010). The Golf tourney, sanctioned by the Namibian Amateur Golf Union (NAGU), attracted 56 players from all over the country. During the prize giving ceremony, the Manica Group Namibia representative, Riaan Lottering described the event as an ideal platform to exchange ideas and quoted golfing legend Gary Player that “success or failure on the course is created primarily by one’s thoughts. This small nugget of wisdom is as true on the golf course as it is in life and in business. Today we saw some wonderful golf, whether you were a spectator, a caddie or a golfer, this has been one of those memorable events where the day turned out to be more than just a competition, but a day of catching up, getting in touch and sharing. So in essence I trust that you have had fun, that you enjoyed some excellent golfing, shared news and made new friends,” he said.
Lottering said Manica’s involvement with golfing events stretched way back to 2003. “We have been a sponsor of the Swakop Open, the Coastal Open and indeed our own golf fun days. Our support of everything golf is based on one of the values Manica breathes and instills in all of its dealings and projects, namely Fun. We firmly believe that success can also be measured by the amount of fun you had in reaching your goals. Simply put; if you enjoy what you do, you will do it so much better.” He also reaffirmed Manica’s support to sport and golf, in particular, noting that sport, education and health were the pillars of the group’s social responsibility programme.
